Le Pèlerin is an illustrated weekly published in Paris. The illustration on the cover page of this issue shows a typical view of Hong Kong, overseeing City of Victoria, Victoria Harbour and Kowloon Peninsula from Victoria Peak. The men next to the tree has a queue (men’s ponytail). The illustration was probably produced with reference to a photography taken earlier. By 1924, the Republic of China had established for more than 10 years. Most Chinese had abandoned this Manchurian hairstyle. City of Victoria was also much more developed than illustrated. There was also much less green in the urban area of Hong Kong.
